Nuclear Memorialization is a proposal for a large scale memorial that
questions the singular vision of nuclear waste as an unwanted byproduct of
the nuclear fuel chain. More specifically the contextualization of the spent
fuel as a material which is to be stored, hidden from the public for millenia,
and never spoken of again.
By placing the cask memorial in populous and globally affluent areas, the burden of environmental and sociological risk becomes more evenly distributed. In doing so, it acknowledges the longevity of these materials and the energy that they have contributed to our societies.
